2011 was looking promising for paratriathlete Iain Dawson having won the world, European and national triathlon and world duathlon titles in the TRI - 6 category in 2010.
Then a disintegrating wheel at the European Triathlon Championships was followed by a foot injury that hampered training for most of the summer. These were followed by a high speed crash on the first bike lap at the World Triathlon Championships in September wrecked his tandem and left him with injuries that affected his performance at the World Duathlon Championships a fortnight later.
As the year came to a close he began training with a new guide, Luke Watson. With the arrival of a new tandem the pair have now started planning not only how to win back the titles lost in 2011 but also how to secure a place on the start line when triathlon debuts at the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
In the meantime, along with the training, planning and his work as a physiotherapist, Iain has still found time to help run a sports club for people with learning disabilities that he started with his wife Jill and another friend. « less
